Daniel Raus is a journalist, writing in Czech and Slovak. He has also published several books of poetry and interwiews and recorded two CDs.
He currently works in the Czech radio (ČRo6) where he mainly writes commentaries about international politics. Before that he worked for the Slovak broadcasting of Radio Free Europe in Prague, Czech Republic.
Between 1993 and 1995, which were the years of a turbulent reign of Slovak prime minister Vladimír Mečiar, he was a Slovak correspondent for the Czech broadcasting of Radio Free Europe. As well as being a journalist, Daniel Raus was also doing profile interwiews with individuals from the public scene for the Slovak weekly Domino.
At that time, his two books of interwiews, Politika a Ideál and Rozhovory s Mariánem Labudou were published. Politika a Ideál (Politics and Ideals) consisted of four discussions with people who were well known during the times of the Velvet Revolution and were later confronted with the fact that their ideals did not become a reality. The basic question of this book is to what extent ideals can survive in politics. Rozhovory s Mariánem Labudou (Talks with Marián Labuda) consists of seven interwiews with the famous Slovak actor.
Daniel Raus in the author of several books of poetry, one of which, Song, has been translated into English. His next book, Song of Solomon, is currently in the process of translation. He has recorded two CDs, and although he sings in Czech, you can find English translations of the lyrics on Place under the sun.
